Monday we commemorate St. Cosmos the Hymnographer(10/12).
He lived in the 8th century and was raised with St. John of Damascus. Together,
they devised the system of the eight tones. He composed the Nativity Canon from
which comes our Nativity greeting, “Christ is Born, Glorify Him.”
Several of the saints are people who actively opposed
Christianity before their conversion. Friday we honor St. Longinus (10/16), the
centurion who stood at the foot of the Cross. Tradition says that he was cured
of an eye ailment when water and blood poured out of the wound inflicted by him
in Christ’s side. He was later baptized by the Apostles and martyred by
Pilate.
This week we commemorate again the translation of a
saint’s relics. This time it’s for the Righteous Lazarus. He lived
thirty years after Christ called him forth from the tomb as the bishop of

Many thanks to those who braved the steady rain last
week to participate in Life Chain.
Remarkably, we had about 10-12 participants. May God be merciful to those whose lives have
been wounded or cut short by abortion!!!
