eye. Rest assured that everything we do

Tuesday we commemorate the Prophet Amos (6/15).
Unlike most prophets, he came from a family of shepherds and was
unschooled. He also was a dresser of sycamore trees. Accordingly, he
employs in his writing vivid imagery – wagons, grasshoppers, birds, and
cattle. He spoke well, using poetic devices and picturesque speech to
prophesy the crucifixion, resurrection and ascension of Christ. In some of his
icons he is shown as an old man who resembles
As we remember our earthly fathers next week, it is
appropriate that the Church celebrates the feast day of St. Jude (6/19)
Saturday. We often think of the saints as perfect, solitary, and far
removed from our struggles. However, St. Jude was one from among
us. We call him the brother of the Lord, because he was the son of Joseph
the Betrothed. Actually, in his youth, he was very possessive of his
inheritance from him. In his later years, through humility and awareness of his
lack of faith and love for Christ, he would refer to himself as the brother of
James, who willingly shared his inheritance with Jesus. St. Jude was
married with children and the cousin of the Forerunner. He exhorts
us in his short epistle to persevere in faith and good works.

Pray for our catechumens:
Please remember in your prayers: His Eminence, Metropolitan PHILIP, His Grace, Bishop

From
the Fathers
On the need to teach children virtue at
a young age.
“Let no one tell me that our children ought not to
be occupied with these spiritual things; they ought not only to be occupied
with them, but to be zealous about them only. And although on account of your
infirmity I do not assert this, nor take them away from their worldly learning,
just as I do not draw you away either from your civil business; yet of these
seven days I claim that you dedicate one to the common Lord of us all…it is this
very young age that most of all needs the hearing of these spiritual things;
for from its tenderness it readily stores up what is said; and what children
hear is impressed a seal on the wax of their minds. Besides, it is then that
their life begins to incline to vice or virtue; and if from the very gates and
portals one lead them away from iniquity, and guide them by the hand to the
best road, he will fix them for the time to come in a sort of habit and nature,
and they will not, even if they be willing, easily change for the worse.” ~

An old man said, “If you say to
someone, ‘Forgive me’ in humiliating yourself you are burning the demons.”
“He who relies on theoretical knowledge alone is not yet
a faithful servant: a faithful servant is one who expresses his faith in Christ
through obedience to His commandments.”
~St. Kosmas Aitolos
“When you cultivate prayer the
Tempter's blusterings will not trouble you. Prayer
diminishes his strength, he cannot do anything to us.”
~Elder Amphilochios
