THE WOMEN OF ST. JOHN

Any woman who attends St. John may participate in the Antiochian Women of St. John (AWOSJ). We encourage fellowship, friendship and spiritual development among women at all stages of life. Activities include:
  • First Friday Prayers/Brown Bag Lunch – Sixth Hour Prayers followed by lunch downstairs in the Parish Hall
  • Women’s Teaching – Held in a member’s home one Thursday each month at 10 am (see the women’s listings in the weekly bulletin for each month’s dates)
  • Mommies’ Stay ‘n’ Play – Young mothers and children gather at St. John each Friday morning for Third Hour Prayers followed by playtime
  • Secret Sisters – New Secret Sisters are chosen quarterly with an “unveiling” potluck for all women at the end of the quarter
  • Regular meetings to discuss projects, programs, and issues of interest – held during coffee hour the first Sunday of the month
AWOSJ members play an integral role in the life of the parish, with women volunteering to coordinate:
  • Coffee hour hosting for Sundays and special liturgies
  • Prosfora scheduling for all liturgies
  • Mercy meals
  • Food pantry stocking
  • Humanitarian outreach
  • Vestment maintenance
  • Flowers for the Nave for special feasts/occasions
  • Annual women’s retreats
We are the local chapter of the national Antiochian Orthodox Church Women of North America (AOCWNA), as well as a member of the Southeast Region AOCWNA. Each year, chapters across North America promote a common charity – currently, we're raising funds for the Al Kafa’at Foundation in Beirut, Lebanon.

To get on the email list (or snail mail), please leave a message for Anne Dugan at the church 901/274-4119 or email annedugan@bellsouth.net.
