Lenten Psalter Groups

We are again forming Psalter Groups for Great Lent . During Lent, individual members of a Psalter Group of 20 will read 1 Kathisma per day, resulting in the Psalter being read in its entirety daily by the group. By the end of the fast, each individual will have read through the entire Psalter twice.

The Old Testament as Christian Scripture

Many of us are confused about how the often-enigmatic books located before Matthew fit into our Christian faith, other than perhaps as a history of Jesus's people. Many questions arise about the nature of these texts: Are they historically accurate? What about where the translations don't match the New Testament? How do these ancient laws in the Torah still matter? Why does any of this matter to Christians? This course is an introduction to how the early writers of the Christian Church - both biblical authors and early Fathers - understood the Old Testament to be applicable and useful to the emerging Christian faith.

Announcing the St. John Athletic Club

Calling all sports nerds, outdoors enthusiasts, and adventure seekers! Our St. John community is starting a new fellowship opportunity with our own athletic club! The goal is to organize various rec league sports teams, hiking and camping trips, and other general athletic activities and gatherings for the sake of play and community. The St. John Athletic Club will have its first meeting on Sunday January 26th during coffee hour. All those interested of 18 years or older are welcome! Dormition Fast Begins August 1st

The Dormition Fast lasts from August 1 through 14th. The traditional fasting discipline (no meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, fish, wine and oil) is observed during this fast with katalysis for wine and oil on Saturdays and Sundays, and for fish, wine and oil on the Transfiguration (August 6th).
