Reading vigil is an important part of Holy Week for many parishioners. It is something that families, godparents and godchildren, and friends have done together for years. This year we will keep that tradition by reading via Zoom.

Below you will find a sign up link for you to choose your time to read. You will need a Psalter and the Gospels. Times begin following Taking Down Vespers on 4/17 and continue until the beginning of Midnight Office on 4/18.

Important Schedule Changes for St. John
Important Schedule Changes for St. John

Taking into account the directives of His Eminence, we will be changing our schedule for the next few weeks. For at least the next two weeks, we will be limiting ourselves to the liturgical services, the prayers of which will be vitally important for everyone during this difficult time. This does mean that we will not have coffee hour or our Wednesday meals, Bible study or other teaching opportunities and gatherings. As was announced yesterday, we will have our 10 am cleaning session tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, we will not be hosting Fr. Serafim Aldea tomorrow evening, nor will we have our scheduled Lenten retreat. Lord willing, we will be able to reschedule both of those at a later time.

Lenten Psalter Groups

We are again forming Psalter Groups for Great Lent . During Lent, individual members of a Psalter Group of 20 will read 1 Kathisma per day, resulting in the Psalter being read in its entirety daily by the group. By the end of the fast, each individual will have read through the entire Psalter twice.

How do these ancient laws in the Torah still matter? Why does any of this matter to Christians? This course is an introduction to how the early writers of the Christian Church - both biblical authors and early Fathers - understood the Old Testament to be applicable and useful to the emerging Christian faith.
